this topic is a very good idea indeed.

I will try to participate as much as I can, and not just read it. But as you probably know now, I'm not really the kind of person who speak a lot just to say silly things


just to help, if you want to say :

- "je sais que la fraise est rouge", then, you must write : I know that the strawberry is red

but if you want to say :

- "ce n'est pas ce que je veux dire", then you must write : "this is not what I want to say"

You can note that english people are used to avoid using the "that". For example, in the sentence : I know that the strawberry is red", they will say : "I know the strawberry is red".

I'll try to fix some mistakes (and not errors, it's just a bit more elegant ^^), I'll begin with the equivalences of "que".


"Le fait que les élèves s'endorment en cour"

The fact that pupils fall asleep during class

"Ce qui s'explique par"

What is explained by

"Le livre qui est sur la table"

The book which is on the table




So there are different words for the same french expression. Each one has its own sense, I hope I could help you.


Next step : another current mistake with verbal forms followed by "to".


Some verbs, when used in a particular sense, are followed by "to". For example :

"Je veux que tu fasses ça"

I want you to do that

Yes, but you can say "I wana you do that"

"wanna" is very familiar and not elegant. Furthermore, it's more used in speaking language than in writing. It's used to replace the verb : want to.

I want to speak to you > I wanna speak to you.

I don't want to leave > I don't wanna leave.

Written, it's a way to illustrate an accent or a bad prononciation.

I agree, celtic music is so beautiful... when I went to Scotland, I wanted to buy all CDs of celtic music that I found in stores, it was so difficult to choose... argh
Do you like also New Age music ? ^^ (I'm not sure if it's the good writing...)

I can listen a lot of different kinds of music.

New age, as Enya's songs, is a quite sympathetic and reposing movement. But I also listen Old school punk, different styles of Metal, Ska, Reggae, Trip-hop, Independent rock...
Everything with a bit of real musical research, originality or quality, even rap you know : some bands have real great texts, old bands, unknown ones... A french rap band I like, for example, is "Le Klub des Loosers", with a kind of cynism, dark lyrics and an acid humour which are a real pleasure.

I went to Scotland last year, in July-August 2007, in the north (we did the turn, from the east to the north and from west to the south), and especially in the Highlands
The landscape is very beautiful ! Drive between mounts on deserted roads... it's very special.
Scotland is the first country in the world that I prefer with Britanny. I love very very much their history, legends, langage, landscapes,...

It would too easy if I give you the translation, though, you gave me the answer : in fact you saw the good part of Scotland, the North is absolutly fantastic and also very calm. We were there at the same time, by the way, I was there during August, for the World Pipe Band Championship in Glasgow, and then in Dundee.

You're right again, Scotland is a first class country for that, the people are very warm-welcoming even if they speak crap hard english, which is always hard to understand.
